1100 and 1200 Phones Firmware Upgrade

  • The configuration files for 1100 and 1200 get auto-generated from Server Edition when needed
  • You can test the content of those files by using a browser on IPofficeServerIPaddress\1220SIP.cfg as an example.

·         1230SIP.cfg

·         1220SIP.cfg

·         1140eSIP.cfg

·         1120eSIP.cfg

Method2: Configure an HTTP server

SET HTTP DEFAULT folder to the IP Office Manager installation folder:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager

That folder already contains the correct cfg files to upgrade to a SIP firmware

·         1230SIP.cfg

·         1220SIP.cfg

·         1140eSIP.cfg

·         1120eSIP.cfg

SET the IP Phones to use PROVISIONING = TFTP server IP address

Default password for those phone: color*set

UNISTIM to UNISTIM

Before upgrading a UNISTIM firmware to SIP, we recommend changing the UNISTIM firmware to 062AC8Q.bin.

The firmware is available from IP Office Manager installation on any PC under:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\IPSET-UNISTIM-C7M

That folder already contains the correct CFG files to upgrade UNISTIM to UNISTIM firmware, as well as all the necessary files.

·         1230.cfg

·         1220.cfg

·         1140e.cfg

·         1120e.cfg

To change the firmware to 062AC8Q.bin, setup a TFTP server and change the TFTP default folder to  C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\IPSET-UNISTIM-C7M (or copy the content of that folder to the root of your TFTP server.)

SET the IP Phones to use PROVISIONING = TFTP server

Default password for those phone: color*set

REBOOT PHONES

For example, a 1220 UNISTIM phone will look for the file 1220.cfg file from that location, and change the firmware to 062AC8Q. Here is an example of the file content:

[FW]

DOWNLOAD_MODE   FORCED

VERSION         062AC8Q.bin

PROTOCOL        TFTP

FILENAME        062AC8Q.bin

UNISTIM to SIP

Before upgrading a UNISTIM firmware to SIP, we recommend changing the UNISTIM firmware to 062AC8Q.bin.

  • Refer to the UNISTIM to UNISTIM section above for information.

Now, to upgrade to SIP firmware from UNISTIM firmware version 062AC8Q.bin, here are two methods:

Method1: using IP Office or Server Edition:

  1. Configure the provisioning server on the IP Phone to use the Server Edition Primary Server IP Address
  2. Boot the phone

 After the reboot...

  1. Let it run through and it should connect to the network and access the server for 1220.cfg, 1230.cfg, 1120e.cfg, or 1140e,cfg
  2. After processing the file, it will load the new SIP firmware such as SIP12x004.04.18.00.bin and reboot automatically.
  3. New firmware app will load afterwards. You should see "Application starting..." and "F/W Version 04.04.18.00" on the LCD as the new app runs.

Method2: Another method to upgrade to SIP firmware is to configure a TFTP server.

  1. SET TFTP Server to have the following files in root:
  2. The CFG files needed for your phone type, such as:

·         1230.cfg

·         1220.cfg

·         1140e.cfg

·         1120e.cfg

The content of the files must be like the example below (Use TFTP if running a TFTP server)

EXAMPLE:

[FW]

DOWNLOAD_MODE   FORCED

VERSION         SIP12x004.04.18.00

PROTOCOL      TFTP

FILENAME       SIP12x004.04.18.00.bin

  • If the upgrade does not occur, verify that your TFTP server is getting information/logs
  • If the TFTP server is not getting info, you need to fix your network, or disable Windows firewall
  • If your IP Office Manager is open on the same PC as the TFTP server, shutdown IP Office Manager
  • If your TFTP server shows information/logs, use that information to resolve the issue to have the new firmware load.

Configuring the UNISTIM or SIP phones to access the TFTP server, IP Office, or Server Edition

  • SET the IP Phones to use PROVISIONING = server IP address
  • Default password for those phone: color*set
  • REBOOT PHONES

If you struggle to set the Provisioning server, you can use this trick

  1. Power on the IP Phone
  2. Press and hold up arrow and '2', power cycle the phone. Release when you see "Load BootC".
  3. When you see "Nortel" or "AVAYA", press softkey 1,2,3,4 in order (the 4 keys below the LCD). This will get to network config prompts.
  4. Config as appropriate (DHCP, ip, netmask, gateway, etc. depends on dhcp is on or not). Ignore S1, S2.
  5. When you see "Prov:", enter the ip of your tftp server
  6. At end of menu, press Apply softkey. Phone will reboot.

 After the reboot...

  1. Let it run through and it should connect to the network and access the server for 1220.cfg, 1230.cfg, 1120e.cfg, or 1140e,cfg
  2. After processing the file, it will load the new SIP fw such as SIP12x004.04.18.00.bin and reboot automatically.
  3. New firmware app will load afterwards. You should see "Application starting..." and "F/W Version 04.04.18.00" on the LCD as the new app runs.
